Transplant is a design competence centre
The Transplant design competence centre is the physical embodiment of a visionary idea for the development, collaboration and sharing of concepts. Such a grand and holistic vision needed an architect working with and toward a similar ideology. Designed by architect Attila Eris (known for his work with Paul Klee Zentrum) on appointment by Renzo Piano, the building covers 600 m2 and is situated on the banks of the intimate and beautiful Dalsfjorden.
The building is splintered into four individual elongated modules, each serving a unique but ultimately inter-linked purpose. Clad in panels of a white almond composite material, Duralmond, the external walls were designed exclsuively by Ralston & Bau to mimic stacks of paper as if the building was a vast library of knowledge. The terraces surrounding some of the wall uses planks of a sustainable polymer wood composed of recycled wood and is re-recyclable up to five times. In fact, throughout the building innovative and sustainable materials can found in use. Since Transplant’s public opening in 2007, it has witnessed many visitors from near and far entering and exploring this exciting creative outpost and will continue to do so for the forseeable future.

A word from Transplant’s Architect…

.
“Transplant was my first adventure in the north. It was challenging, being new to this country. It was passionate, meeting all those people with different backgrounds and it was a fascinating experience, developing the project, while living there, on the shores of the fjord. In this way, creating Transplant was the first Transplant experience. I think the building breathes and exhales this spirit of living, working and creating in deep concentration, as well as the freedom you feel in this awesome and inspiring surroundings. I wish all the luck to the team of Transplant, as well as all those who decide to spend some time there.”
