Orquestra Chekara Flamenca / Concert 11.07.10 at 18.30

Passion and mystery, a violent encounter between ancient Arab and Andalusian traditions.

Arabic mysticism and Andalusian passion melts together in a fiery performance in which musicians and dancers from Morocco and Spain celebrate the close ties that existed between the countries for several centuries. The cooperation between the Moroccan orchestra and Spanish flamenco artists have been around for over 20 years, and is based on music from a time when Jews, Christians and Muslims lived side by side in southern Spain. Live an intense and emotional dialogue over Gibraltar Strait.

Transplant Concert / Tango Twist© 2010 / Tango Twist.

Tango Twist at Transplant / the 12th of August 2010

or A taste of tango favorites from all over the world.

“From 1920 to 1950, the Argentinian Tango became very popular in Europe, America and Asia. The music has been adopted by countries worldwide, and many regions have developed their own style of tango. Twist tango refreshes some of the old tangos, and among other things, it will give you a taste of German humor, nostalgia, Norwegian, Finnish melancholy, the passion of Argentina and oriental surprises …

Twist Tango consists of Ingvild Storhaug (vocals, melodica), Tove Tôrngren (cello), and Marita Vardalis Igelkjøn (piano and accordion).

We are delighted to host a semi acoustic concert with the trio “Tango Twist” for a semi acoustic concert.

Concert / Dagny Sandvik & Tina Refsnes

Transplant Concert / Dagny Sandvik

.
“Some people just have to pour their heart out for everyone. Some people just have to sing if they hear a note. Some people just can’t let the guitar lie there. Some people don’t settle with only singing in the shower. I’m one of those people. I believe it’s been about nineteen years since I heard my first note. I guess I wasn’t aware then. Now I’m very aware. Music is a big part of my life, and of the lives of most people around me. If you listen, and look around, there’s music and lyrics everywhere. On the bus, in a conversation, in the woods outside my house and in your head at 3am when you’re trying to sleep. I carry a notebook with me everywhere. I catch moments, senses and feelings. Later on I try to retell them in my lyrics and songs. I hope you like them.” Dagny Norvoll Sandvik

Transplant Concert / Tina Refsnes

“Tina comes from a small town on the west-coast of Norway; known to the world for little else than stuff that has to do with fish (though an adorable town it must be added). She makes songs about things that take place inside her head (about demons and time, horses and houses) and in the genre of alt-country/americana meets pop, she creates clever melodies and quirky, honest lyrics.”

.
Transplant is truly happy to receive Dagny and Tina for an intimate acoustic concert during one of this surreal summer evening full of warm and meaningful dialog on the terrace. “Good” is linked with hard workers. “Talent” is linked with hard workers and something else. They get both, and more. We are empathic by nature and it is an honor to be their host for this first time around, and we hope the next ones. It takes time to write a story. You are kindly invite to join the beginning of this one.
We will.

Transplant Sessions #6 / Brakka

Brakka Soundsystem started in 2004 as a collaboration between Leo Sande Gasnier and Torkel Buaroy. The soundsystem is based in Bronnoysund, Norway and has as the years has passed become a more collectivized session/workshop based group under the initiative of Leo who also produces the tracks. Brakka aims to create a sound synthesis of ambient recordings, creative, experimental instrumentation and electronic loops and beats. With successful live performances and quite some radio plays this underground unsigned group has managed to slowly establish itself in the Underwood of the Norwegian electronic/jazz/ambient scene.

After being in Transplant in 2008, Leo offers to all of us his unique set designed in situ within our walls so everybody could share his creativity. Enjoy…

Oddvar Torsheim / Concert

“Kom å høyr for swingande” !  - Livet vert ikkje det same etterpå.

Billettpris: kr 200,- på førehand (fås kjøpt på Dale bok og papir as og Transplant) / kr 250,- i døra

Transplant Sessions #5 ‘Landmark’

On the 22nd August the Transplant Sessions was hosted by Landmark, Bergen Kunsthall. Ekko Fest organizer DJ Asel started the evening.  His record selection complemented by the landscaped visuals of vj Birk (from local night VJ picks the DJ) who combined three projectors seamlessly to make a whole wall of imagery. Uraki Riddim followed up with some chopped up beats  before going back to back with Slabs of the Tabernacle’s resident Brian D’Souza prior to his live set. For this period, visuals were provided by vj Julie Arrive.  To take things up to top kilter, Nabovarsel resident Sanhueza and Tobii live made sure nobody left the dance floor.  This months podcast is a live recording of this talented Bergen pair. enjoy!

Transplant sessions #4 ‘NOU SOUL’

Summer is in the air and with some hot and long days and cool down nights some might say that there is no better music to cool down with, or get hotter on the dancefloor, than soul. From California Soul to jackin electronic soul moods, resident DJ Uraki Riddim served up an exploration into new interpretations of classic soul sounds with some of the vintage stuff thrown in for good measure.  This evenings music was complimented by the colourful visual animal-scapes of Oslo based French designer Julie Arrivé who reinterpreted a live visual work that previously had only been seen performed from Strasbourg in France.

Transplant sessions #3 ‘ECLECTICO’

Transplant Sessions Resident DJ returns to Transplant, Dale I Sunnfjord, following a music related venture to Norway´s capital Oslo and Spain’s mecca of new and innovative music Sonar festival. This Session brought forth a mix of what resident DJ Uraki Riddim found on this trip. Eclectic sounds taking in influence from Futurism and gothic tinged electronic beats. Visuals were supplied from Scottish based visual artist, and member of the DO IT! collective, M.O.C (Mood of Collapse) who prepared a fun and eclectic mix of images to match the blend of Oslo/Barcelona influenced disco, dub and futurist jams!

Transplant Sessions #2 ´SCRATCH´

Our second session explored the history of the ´SCRATCH´ and attempted to reinterpret it´s raw essence in a new format. Scratching, in a musical sense, is the expression and manipulation of records to make new sounds and rhythms. It is an aspect of turntabilism, performance djing, and one of hip-hop´s art forms. Other hip-hop art forms include breakdancing, street art and mcing. Regular jam sessions bring together all four of these art forms and it is in this spirit that DJ Uraki Riddim and designer Jan Brauer will be collaborating on a sound and visual work, using ‘scratch board’, technique at Transplant on Saturday May 23rd. This session also featured an exclusive showing of the award winning film ‘Scratch’ documenting the origins and rise of djs as part of hip-hop culture.

Transplant Sessions #1 ´DO IT! vs. VIXEN VJS´

Scotland’s exciting music and visual collective DO IT! took on Finland’s psycho-visual gals the Vixen VJS in a retro meets future music and visual collage live at the unique surroundings of Transplant, Sogn og Fjordane, in the first of the ´Transplant Sessions´. We witnessed splashes of 80s, dub, funk´n´ nu cosmic beats from DO IT!´s resident DJ Uraki Riddim while the Vixen VJ´S provided a surreal and colourful visual accompaniment. Don´t forget a vixen is a clever animal, who produces its own material.
