NTE is an energy company from northern Norway. Since a period of several months NTE have gone through a strategic process coached by Truls Paulsen and Mads Bruun Høy. The work has resulted in several innovative business ideas for the future of renewable energy.

The NTE project group with coaches came to Transplant for a two day visualisation workshop the 27-28/05. All the Ralston & Bau designers where involved in the pre-research and then designing together with the NTE team during two full days. The aim was to make the business ideas real through design and then be able to make decisions about what projects to pursue in the future.

North Trondelag Energy Society and PLT Innovation Lab come to Transplant for two days to carry out a strategic workshop to visualize ideas, along with Ralston & Bau.

Make new things out of old!
That’s what 15 students and designers did during a two days workshop the 20-21/11 in Transplant. The participants got to choose whatever they wanted out of the delivery of furniture and objects provided by Fretex, to redesign or upcycle. The designers at Ralston & Bau coached the workshop and made sure everyone could bring home their finished product or furniture.
We saw floor lamps emerge out of table and stool legs, a wooden armchair dressed in jeans and another one that got 34 legs!

On a beautiful autumn day the 23rd of October, the Vestnes Group, providers and producers of maritim interiors and furniture, arrived at Transplant by yacht from Florø, for a strategic workshop coached by Ralston & Bau. During the two days session, the mission was to develop the future vision of the holding.

Transplant is a unique place to hold your meeting/conference. Situated on the edge of Dalsfjorden, the beautiful view makes for a calm atmosphere in order to both study and educate. The students of the new practical-pedagogic education program at the Art Academy of Bergen started their term with a 2 days kick-off in Transplant in September 2009. The art academy course is for confirmed designers and artists who want to become certified teachers.
After spending the first day getting to know each other and having pedagogic sessions,
Ralston & Bau coached them in a design process workshop the second day. “Design a light” challenged participants to tell a story, get back to basics manually and come up with new solutions. All groups presented their projects and we were lightened up with portable forest lights, urban lighting for northern cities, light system for cupboards and diffusing light table for dinners with friends. During dinner the invited school principal Kari Nistad gave her side of the story on how to integrate art and design into the curriculum with success.

Small furniture & textile workshop

During four days this summer, learn how to redesign old furniture and textiles to make your own personal design.

A professional designteam from Ralston & Bau and Fretex is coaching the participants, in a workshop that aims to teach new skills and make cool stuff for to take home with you.

Bergens Tidende, the biggest newspaper on the west coast of Norway, sent their creative team working with art direction, graphic design, web productions and interactive commercials, to Transplant in March 2009, for a two-day inspiration workshop. During the workshop the group where coached to use the theme ‘Disapperance’ as an inspiration to develop new ideas and create physical objects. The group where divided in two who together conceived ideas based on the theme. Then followed drawing, gluing, sawing, building, painting, snow sculpturing, collecting, burning… (access to internet and computer was denied). Many interesting creations and good laughs emerged from the session. The theme ‘Disapearance’ is currently being expressed through the Cycle of Mutation exhibition in Transplant.

A few of the results of the workshop can be seen below.

The design team of the Norwegian porcelain producer Figgjo and Ralston & Bau worked together on redesign concepts for rejected porcelain goods. The porcelain which is sorted out in the production chain today is usually recycled to asphalt. The concepts were presented after the workshop in Transplant to the Figgjo management at a nearby waterfall.

From January until May 2009, Innovation Norway and Bedriftsnettverket i Sogn og Fjordane are the driving force behind a competence programme in design and product development for companies based in the area of Sogn og Fjordane. The programme has been designed to help and encourage companies with good ideas to develop them, in spite of the current economic downturn.

The 4 sessions in the programme are held at Transplant. The director of Bedriftsnettverket i Sogn og Fjordane, Ole T. Kleiven, says the following about the programme: “In this competence programme, we are trying to understand the path from curiosity to understanding and implementing. Our goal is to see concrete results in the companies who are in this programme.

Ralston & Bau is one of the competences used in the PRO 2 programme along with Inventas.

Companies involved in the PRO 2 programme are: Impec, Østerbø Maskin, Strukturplast, Vestnes Innredning, Sigurd Solberg, Fresvik Produkt, Gnistre, Weltzien Innotec and Sogn Aqua.

The ‘Trainee Sogn og Fjordane’ program is a one year program for young people coming to Sogn og Fjordane to work in finance, marketing, research and development.  The program runs from the end of one year into the start of the next. In 2007/2008 and 2008/2009 they chose to hold creative workshops as part of the trainee programme in Transplant.   The workshops included theoretical and practical sessions.

The first group had a “design your own light” workshop, while the second group had a “redesign” workshop. Both groups had to present what they did during the workshop with a marketing perpective, i.e. selling the objects that they had designed.

Transplant are thankful that Framtidsfylket chose us as the host for these trainee events.

14 members of TV2′s graphic department were in Transplant for 3 days in October 2007. The goal of the workshop was to make objects that could be exhibited at the headquarters of TV2 in Bergen. The graphic department team used the theme “Emergence” as a motivational base for their creative sessions.

The competence teams at Transplant are delighted that Tv2 chose us as a host for
the creative workshop and hope that the objects designed in Transplant are still to be found in TV2.
